Laila
started her career in London as a model
working for the likes of Channel and doing
pop videos for artists like Terence Trent
D’arby and Aswad to name but a few.
After doing a small stint in drama school
she decided to pack her bags and head to
India where she was immediately asked to
be an in house Video Jockey for Asia’s
leading music channel, Channel V. During
her 5 year stay in Mumbai she worked for
BBC World hosting the popular show Style
with Rahul Bose and TNT’s Dinner and
a Movie. It was during this time that she
was spotted by up and coming Director Aditya
Bhattacharya who asked her to play the female
lead opposite Lothaire Bluteau in his second
feature film Senso Unico. It was while she
was making this film that she got the acting
bug and went on to play the lead character
Nandita in critically acclaimed film Split
Wide Open and Amy in The Sandstorm. During
a flying visit to London she met Hollywood
Director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) who offered
her a part in his film The Four Feathers.
After she finished filming The Four Feathers
in Morocco she decided to unpack her bags
for the last time and stay in London.
Since then she has hosted Network East Late
on BBC2, played Dale Jackson in teen drama
Hollyoaks and of course Amber Gates in Footballers
Wives. Footballers Wives has turned Laila
into a household name in the UK and with
the show receiving raving reviews in America
where it is airs on BBC America, is it only
a matter of time before Laila packs her
bags again?
Until then, there’s plenty to keep
Laila busy. She has two films coming out
this year. You can watch her in the comedy
Freebird as the character Lucinda and The
Hunt Feast where she plays Samia. |
